Step By Step Foundation For Autistic Children Receives Support From Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited

The Step by Step Foundation can look forward to an enhanced autism programme with the support of Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited.

The Foundation, a locally registered charitable organisation catering for the education and development needs of children with autism, expanded to establish the Step by Step School for autistic children in 2011.

Through the sponsorship provided by Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, the school which presently has fifteen children enrolled, will benefit from the services of a US medical practitioner specializing in autism who will visit three times per year to assess the children's progress and monitor tutors' performance. The Republic Bank sponsorship also covers the tuition for one child for one year and one tutor's annual salary. Additionally, the Foundation will be able to conduct assessments on potentially autistic children during the medical practitioner's visit. The sponsorship cheque to the tune of one million, seven hundred thousand dollars ($1,700,000) was presented on February 25, 2013.

Autism is a complex developmental disability resulting from a neurological disorder which presents itself during the first three years of a child's life. Republic Bank (Guyana) Limited, through its community investment initiative, the Power to Make a Difference, continually seeks avenues to offer support for the empowerment of the differently able. The sponsorship afforded the Step by Step Foundation aligns with this goal.
