The Guyana Volleyball Federation recently concluded the highly anticipated tournament on November 9 and 10, 2024 at the National Gymnasium. This inaugural tournament saw 49 teams – both male and female battle for supremacy.
In the female category, Mabaruma emerged victorious, defeating Lethem 30-28, 25-21 and 25-19. The Sipatuta Falcons and Bartica Warriors claimed third and fourth place respectively.
On the male side, Hururu Hydras edged out PMTC in a nail-biting finish, winning 19-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21, 15-15. Meanwhile, Alpha took third place and Bartica finished fourth.
Both the male and female champion teams won trophies, medals and $300,000 in cash while the third and fourth place teams won $200,000 and $100,000 respectively in addition to trophies and medals.
In addition, several individual accolades were also awarded for their outstanding performances.
For the female category:
• Best Defence- Delinica Campbelle - Mabaruma
• Best Attacker- Vandette Henry - Lethem
• Best Setter- Delinica Campbelle - Mabaruma
• Most Valuable Player- : Lianna Gilkes - Mabaruma
For the male category:
• Best Defence: A. Saywack - PMTC
• Best Libero: A. Saywack - PMTC
• Best Attacker: Andy Rohoman - PMTC
• Best Setter: Ravi Rampertab - PMTC
• Most Valuable Player: Kelon Phillips - Hururu Hydras
During the presentation ceremony, the Honorable Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., commended the Guyana Volleyball Federation, the National Sports Commission, and Republic Bank for their invaluable contributions towards the success of this venture.
