On Sunday, April 29, 2018, the Step by Step Foundation under the Patronage of Her Excellency, First Lady of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Sandra M. Granger in collaboration with Republic Bank hosted the third annual Light It Up Blue! Autism Awareness Walk.
Scores of persons participated in the Walk despite the inclement weather including Her Excellency Sandra M. Granger, United Nations Resident Representative Ms. Mikiko Tanaka, Staff and Students of the Step by Step Foundation; Senior Management and Staff of Republic Bank; as well as individuals and company representatives.
This event sought to provide awareness and give a voice for Autism in Guyana. It also helped to raise funds for the Step by Step Foundation.
The Light it Up Blue Awareness Walk to date has raised over $400,000: from t-shirt sales and donations received for the work of the Step by Step Foundation as they continue to help change the lives of those affected by Autism, through the Step by Step School. The total funds raised will be donated to the Step by Step Foundation by the end of May 2018.
The Walk ended at the Republic Bank Sports Club and was followed by a brief programme with Remarks from the First Lady, the Step by Step Foundation and Republic Bank. The event wrapped up with a zumba session.
The generous support of participants will help a number of individuals and their families living with Autism daily.
