On Saturday, April 2, 2016, the Step by Step Foundation under the Patronage of Her Excellency, First Lady of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, Sandra M. Granger in collaboration with Republic Bank hosted the first Light It Up Blue! Autism Awareness Walk.
Scores of persons participated in the Walk including Her Excellency Sandra M. Granger, Ministers of Government, Directors, Staff and Students of the Step By Step Foundation; Senior Management and Staff of Republic Bank; as well as individuals and company representatives.
This event sought to provide awareness and give a voice for Autism in Guyana. It also helped to raise funds for the Step By Step Foundation.
The Light it Up Blue Awareness Walk raised $363,800: with t-shirt sales continuing and donations and pledges still being received for the work of the Step by Step Foundation as they continue to help change the lives of those affected by Autism, through the Step by Step School. The total funds raised will be donated to the Step By Step Foundation on April 29, 2016.
The Walk ended in the Promenade Gardens and was followed by a brief programme with Remarks from the First Lady, Minister of Education, Step By Step Foundation and Republic Bank. The event wrapped up with a zumba session, children’s art activity and an opportunity for participants to write notes of encouragement on the message wall.
The generous support of participants will help a number of individuals and their families living with Autism daily.
