The Youth Link Apprenticeship Programme was first introduced in Guyana in 2008 primarily to bridge the gap between the end of the participants’ school life and the start of their career.

This is the sixth Batch of Apprentices of the Bank’s Youth Link Apprenticeship Programme and it commenced on November 01, 2013 and concluded on June 01, 2014.

The Apprentices were afforded early insight into the work environment and this is expected to boost their confidence, potential and marketability among other things as they embark on their individual career pursuits.

They were assigned to the Bank’s wide Branch Network and benefited from professional development in office procedures, personal development, banking operations, customer service and computing.

During the period, the Apprentices were tasked with the preparation of a Business Proposal and presented their individual proposals to a panel of judges on a topic of their choice, selected from the following fields:

  • Anti-money Laundering Policies and Financial Institutions
  • Coaching and Mentoring in the Workplace
  • Abuse

They were also involved in community outreach, styled Care-A-Van, which enabled the group to experience care-giving for the differently able in sessions with the children of the Ptolemy Reid Rehabilitation Centre.

They also received First Aid Training, which was facilitated by the Guyana Red Cross Society.

Additionally, there was also time for group interaction and the development of social skills during a day of fun and relaxation with a guided tour along the Essequibo River with stops at Fort Island and the Baganara Island Resort.
